In June of 2000 Ray of Hope launched a new and innovative program in downtown Kitchener. The Morning Glory Café and Bakery was a social enterprise designed to teach practical skills and positive work habits to young people who have experienced long-term difficulty obtaining and maintaining employment. For 13 years the downtown King St. location was the anchor to both the business and the program.
Even with many changes over the years, our two Morning Glory Café locations and Catering department maintain the original vision of the program, which is to train young people.
Over a four-six month period, the Ray of Hope Youth Employment Program addresses a combination of work related issues and other important life skills. Although we utilize funding through Ontario’s Youth Employment Fund & Service Canada, a good portion of the resources needed to run the program come directly from local foundations and the generous donations from individuals, churches, and businesses. Café sales also help in offsetting the cost of running the program.
